About the Lines

Changing Lines are the part of an I-Ching reading that always gives the most powerful advice about a situation because they represent the factors that are causing things to change right now.

The odds are against casting a Changing Line (about the same as tossing 3 coins and having all 3 come up heads). But most castings of an I-Ching hexagram (i.e. six line form) do produce one or more Changing Lines.

If there are Changing Lines, there is also a second hexagram called "Future" which is created by reversing all the Changing Lines (those marked by a dot in the middle) into their opposite -- yin into yang and yang into yin. The Future hexagram is very important because it is the part of an I-Ching reading that predicts the way things are going to go if you follow the advice of the Changing Lines.
