College Majors by Sign
Let your zodiac sign help you choose a course of study
by Natori Moore
Let's face it: choosing a college major can be difficult. Those lucky few who know early in life what kind of work they want to do may have it easy, but the rest of us can use a little help finding a college course of study that supports our interests and long-range career aspirations. Fortunately, Astrology can provide a little insight. It's even possible to discover the best college majors based on your astrological Sun sign. If you know your Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter or rising signs, read the recommendations for those signs, too.
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
Aries will probably start a business or lead a sales team after college, thus just about any college major can work for this energetic sign. The best majors for Aries are business, psychology, organizational leadership, pre-med, kinesiology, criminal justice or military training programs. Speech and public speaking classes enhance the ram's ability to succeed long-term. Most importantly, Aries should choose a major that will hold his or her interest and provide leadership opportunities.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
The stable Bull wants a major that will lead to creature comforts and financial rewards. Thus economics, finance, real estate, hospitality and hotel or casino management may all be suitable courses of study. Floral or fashion design and merchandising, landscape architecture or music will appeal to the more beauty-oriented Taurus types. Programs in farm management, winemaking or cooking may lead to careers in agriculture or the food industry.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
The versatile Twin may have an especially difficult time choosing one course of study. Build variety into a Gemini major by choosing interesting electives or even designing a unique program. Good fields for Gemini include communications, marketing, math, instructional technology, teaching, journalism and languages. Systems engineering or wireless communications may interest the more technically-minded Gemini.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
The Crab wants a college major that can help to preserve the things Cancer likes best: home, family and community. Thus home economics, family law, domestic security management, early childhood education, history or architecture may be desirable fields of study. Cancer is usually good with the coins, too, and may find finance, economics or business degrees good preparation for a career in banking. Biology and anthropological studies will appeal to Cancer's instinctive feel for the origins of life.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
The king or queen of the jungle loves people and wants to lead, manage or inspire them in a future career. An element of speculation and risk excites Leo and makes life worth living. Thus majors in theater, recreation, sports management, finance or pre-law (with the goal of being an entertainment lawyer) may find a home with the Lion. A basic business degree could help Leo form the foundation for a career in party planning, stock trading or sales of luxury goods.
Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Not one to shy away from hard work and details, Virgo can tackle the most difficult college majors. Chemistry, physics, math and environmental engineering are a few of the majors that may appeal to this industrious sign. Accounting, linguistics, industrial/organizational psychology, supply chain management and manufacturing may appeal to the precise, process-oriented focus of Virgo. Pre-med, nursing, medical technology or any health-related major will prepare the Virgin well for future career success.
