What to expect when the planet of life lessons moves into the sign of love

Saturn -- the planet of work, growth and maturity -- spends a little over two years in each sign, pointing out the major lessons for that period. On October 29, Saturn will change signs from Virgo to Libra, marking a significant shift in focus.

Since September 2007, Saturn in Virgo the Virgin has required inner and outer purification. To uncover your essential self and identify your true path of service, you've had to strip away all that is extraneous. Improving self-care habits -- cleaning up your daily diet and exercise routines -- has also been a strong theme.

Now, as Saturn moves into Libra, it's time to put this intense personal work to the test in the realm of relationships. Libra the Scales, ruled by Venus, Goddess of Love, is the sign of partnership, collaboration and cooperation. Saturn will be in Libra until October 2012, with a brief return to Virgo from April to July 2010.

Establishing new partnerships and strengthening existing bonds -- romantic, business and other alliances -- will be on the front burner while Saturn is in Libra. If you've grown weary of the solitude and self-reliance of Saturn in Virgo, this focus on partnership will seem like a welcome change.

However, while Saturn in Libra offers opportunities for satisfying partnerships, you have to be willing to work for those rewards. Relationships, and your ability to relate to others successfully, will be tested. Balancing your own needs with your partner's, relating authentically with others and cooperating with others to create win-win outcomes will be key areas for growth.
