Thanksgiving Movies by Zodiac Sign

Flicks to kick off the holiday season

The Thanksgiving holiday is a time to appreciate all the gifts we've been given. And what bigger gift is there than friends and family? The best thing about Thanksgiving is the act of gathering together to share a meal...and then flopping on the couch in the living room to watch a family movie. If the festivities are at your home, here are some ideas for happy mediums between what the grown-ups and the kids want to see...as well as some to be viewed after the kids are asleep. Happy Thanksgiving...and enjoy the show!

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Thanksgiving Day. Choosing a movie for an Aries is easy -- as long as you follow the rules. First, no chick flicks. Also, nothing that's too serious. A comedy, however, is perfect for an Aries' quirky sense of humor, and Thanksgiving Day just so happens to fit the bill. It's hysterical, and the dialogue is terrific. It's centered on a family who has more money than...well, more than abundant, expansive Jupiter. Give it a shot. We bet everyone will enjoy it.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Scent of a Woman. For an after-the-kids-are-asleep movie, check out Scent of a Woman. Taureans love star quality, something this film has in spades with Al Pacino and a very young Chris O'Donnell. 'Scent of a Woman' is also perfect because O'Donnell ends up looking after a blind Pacino for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This film is perfect for grown-ups with taste, which is why it is so appealing for Taureans.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles. This comedy revolves around Neal (played by Steve Martin), who is doing his damnedest to get home in time for Thanksgiving dinner -- which turns out to be much easier said than done. November weather and transportation hang-ups continue to keep him from getting there (of course), and in the meantime -- to make matters even more irritating -- Neal finds himself stuck with a "travel-buddy" of sorts: a manically chatty (and enthusiastic) shower curtain ring salesman (yep, really) played by John Candy. Chatty Geminis will love the witty repartee.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
What's Cooking?. During the holidays, a Cancer's dinner table will feature a veritable buffet -- and that goes for both the cuisine and the amazing array of guests. Given all that, What's Cooking? is absolutely perfect for your Thanksgiving after-dinner, after-game movie. The story centers around four families from different ethnic groups (Jewish, Latinos, Asian and African-American) and how those families all manage to come together. The cast is terrific, and it's pretty much appropriate for just about any gathering.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Generous Leos are terrific at whatever projects they undertake -- like having the family over for Thanksgiving dinner. They'll put on a fantastic spread, then choose the perfect movie for everyone to watch together: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Even grown-ups who've seen it dozens of times will be happy to curl up with a slice of pumpkin pie and their kids to watch. It's one of those defining Thanksgiving moments.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Hannah and her Sisters. This film is one of Woody Allen's best, and it's also a film that's written for the post-munchkin sleeping hours. This classic 1986 film revolves around Thanksgiving, when Hannah (Mia Farrow) helps Mom assemble the family in New York City for the good time festivities. Mom is quite the lush, of course, and other amazing family dramas continue as dinner is served. Barbara Hershey, Michael Caine, Dianne Wiest, Carrie Fisher and Woody Allen are also on the menu.
