Foods for Aries
And the Spring Equinox

Aries (March 21 to April 19) rules the first house of the zodiac, the house of the personality and the self. Aries are the pioneers of the zodiac. Ruled by Mars, the Aries native is courageous, brave and will be the first to suggest a new adventure. Aries’ creativity lies in their natural ingenuity and ability to envision possibilities previously unknown. They then pass on the ideas for others to bring into reality.

Aries are bold, forceful and self-oriented. They will take charge of any situation, from deciding where to go on a Friday night to evacuating people at the scene of a disaster. Aries will be first to enter an accident site to rescue victims with no concern for their own safety.

Beans
Beans come in many varieties, such as pinto, lima, kidney and navy. All basically have the same properties and are high in molybdenum, folate, dietary fiber, tryptophan, manganese, iron and protein. They are good choices to lower heart attack risk, hypoglycemia and insulin resistance, due to the high fiber content. It appears that all bean varieties have a common link to one originating in Peru. The tryptophan in beans tends to have a calming, satisfying effect, which will aid energetic Aries with relaxation.

Broccoli
Broccoli, a member of the cabbage family, is high in vitamins C, K and A and folate. Sulforaphane found in broccoli assists in liver and skin cell detoxification. It also contains the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, beneficial for healthy eyes. Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables have been said to ward off certain cancers. This remarkable vegetable may be an Aries food, but should certainly be included in the diets of all other signs.

Capers
Capers are the green bud of the Capparis spinosa, a relative of the cabbage family. The unopened buds are picked by hand early in the morning when they are just the right size. They are dried and preserved in vinegar brine. Astringent and pungent in taste, capers are widely used in exotic Mediterranean foods perfect for the Aries palate. In Greece they are used in tea for inflammation and to reduce gas.

Your Cosmic Profile

Garlic
Garlic is native to Central Asia. It is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. Garlic was first cultivated in Ancient Egyptian times. It was considered sacred and buried with the Pharaohs. Also, it was given to the slaves building the pyramids for strength. Garlic, a member of the lily family, is high in manganese, vitamins B6 and C, and selenium, and aids with cancer treatment and diabetic heart disease. Anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral, it has the nickname the Stinking Rose. While this potent bulb is one of Aries’ foods, all signs will benefit from its properties.

Lamb
Lamb may be the perfect meat and source of protein for all signs, not just Aries. One three ounce serving is loaded with protein, selenium, zinc, Omega 3 and vitamins B3 and B12. It is also a prime source of the essential amino acid, tryptophan, which the body uses to produce niacin and serotonin. Lamb is thought to benefit arthritic and skin conditions; reduce anxiety; brighten one's mood, and insure a good night’s sleep. What more could be asked of one small serving?

Lentils
Lentils originated in central Asia and have been eaten since prehistoric times. They are high in folate, fiber, manganese, iron and protein. The high fiber content lowers cholesterol and maintains blood sugar levels. Lentils are filling and give maximum energy, making them most suitable for Aries who are constantly on the go and burn an excess of energy.

Paprika
Paprika is ground dried capsicum peppers, and has many varieties and origins, such as Spain, Hungary, Turkey, Portugal and India. It is widely used in Mediterranean cuisine. Paprika is a truly cross-cultural spice, perfect for the eclectic interests of Aries. It is high in vitamin A, potassium and has more vitamin C than oranges.

Swordfish
Swordfish seems to have a unique connection to Aries. The sign Aries rules all parts of the head including the brain and eyes. There are special organs found close to the eyes of the swordfish that heat the eyes and brain 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above the temperature of the water, aiding in the ability to see and catch their prey. With the sword-like bill used to spear prey and for protection, the swordfish is called the Gladiator, one of the original warriors. Mars, the sign of the warrior, rules Aries. Swordfish is a wonderful source of niacin, the B vitamin responsible for cell energy, which will support Aries.
