Performance Review Feng Shui
By Sally Philips
It's that time of year again, when you meet with your boss to find out if your performance over the past 12 months has been up to snuff. Hopefully, you've more than covered your bases and there won't be any surprises. But just to be sure, here are some simple Feng Shui tips you can use in your office, cubicle or other workspace to pull more good energy your way.
Tidy Up
Feng Shui is all about being neat and clean, so plan on giving your entire workspace a once over. Tidy up your desk and throw away or file anything you don't use on a daily basis. Make special places for items that tend to pile up, so you can keep your space orderly. If you are often disorganized and your office shows it, this change alone could impress your boss.
Less is More
When it comes to office furniture, file cabinets and other objects, the Feng Shui rule is simple: less is more. Too much stuff can make any space feel cramped and block the flow of opportunities. So while you are tidying up, consider moving out items you don't need.
If you've accumulated images and calendars over the past year and tacked them up around your workspace, it's time to revamp your collection. A few pictures of loved ones are fine to keep, but consider putting away dated photos to prepare for a fresh start in the new year. Hang up a 2010 calendar while you're at it.
Make sure the entrance to your workspace remains clear and welcoming, so good energy can get in without any blockage. First impressions are usually lasting impressions, and this time-proven adage can be especially important when it comes to climbing the career ladder.
Your Desk
Most of us don't have the option of placing our desks wherever we want them, so you may not be able to sit where you can see the entrance to your space, which is the optimal placement for Feng Shui. Instead, try placing a small mirror to reflect the entrance.
Other possibilities for your desk include placing a crystal on its northeast corner to help you concentrate. A small globe in this area might also improve your ratings. At the same time, do not let your desk become cluttered with knick-knacks. Clutter is a big Feng Shui no-no because it blocks the flow of chi (positive energy). When it comes to moving energy, less is more on your desk too.
