Horror Movie Villains and Their Name Numerology
The Numerology behind horror's most horrifying killers
based on the Numerology of Hans Decoz
What makes a horror villain tick? For some, childhood trauma sets them off. Others are shunned by society because they have some sort of mental or physical defect. And some are just born bad. We took a look at the Numerology behind Hollywood's most notorious serial killers and found that out their names may play a big part in their evil ways as well.
Norman Bates
The name Norman Bates is dominated by the number 5, indicating a person who, on the one hand, is courageous and take risks. On the other hand, someone represented by this number can lack direction, maturity and discipline. Herein lies the dual nature of Norman Bates. The self he shows to the world is that of the latter. As his mother, though, he has the courage to kill, cover up his crime, and also has a figure to discipline his weaker self. His vowels are dominated by the number 4, making him appear outwardly boring, which can cause people to underestimate what he's capable of.
Hannibal Lecter
The name Hannibal Lector is dominated by the number 7, giving him an air of greatness and unconventional intelligence. The negative characteristics associated with this number include arrogance and eccentricity. As one of the horror genre's most captivating villains, those adjectives, while correct, are all understatements. His mind is as sharp as the knives he uses to dine on his victims, and his remorse is nonexistent. His vowel vibration number is a 3, adding a lightness and sense of humor to him. How else would you explain the classic, quite literal line, "I'm having an old friend for dinner."
Freddy Krueger
Freddy Krueger isn't just a killer -- he's also an entertainer. His blend of comedy and atrocity are reflected in his name. Dominated by the number 3, the name Freddy Kruger indicates a happy-go-lucky type with a creative streak and a wicked sense of humor.
Nothing makes Freddy happier than killing -- and the longer he can drag it out, and the more gruesome and twisted ways he can think to torture his victims before putting them out of their misery, the better. He's also a big proponent of the one-liner, like telling a victim, "You've got the body, I've got the brains!" right before slicing his own skull open.
Michael Myers
Like Norman Bates, Michael Myers' name is dominated by the number 5. The difference is that Michael Myers has all of the alpha characteristics of his dominant number and none of the ones that made Norman Bates create his own evil alter ego. Mikey never thought twice about escaping the mental institution (and killing everyone in his path along the way). It's also the number of a survivor, and everyone who ever tried to stop Michael Myers learned that the hard way. Number 5 people also have killer reflexes (no pun intended) and sharp intuition -- must-have traits for a serial killer on the run.
Jason Voorhees
When Jason Voorhees first killed, he didn't do so out of a sociopathic need to spill blood. He did it to avenge his mother's death. The name Jason Voorhees is dominated by the number 4, making him family-oriented. It's an odd trait for a cold-blooded killer, sure, but it makes sense when you look at where his killer instinct came from. It's also a number of rigidity and intolerance. He may have been a murderer, but he held his teenage victims to a higher moral code, killing them for engaging in what he considered promiscuous activity.
