Saturn and John McCain

The importance of this planet in his birth chart is shown by its opposition to a conjunction of Venus (love) and Neptune (dreams) in Virgo. He was also born with the Moon in Saturn’s home sign of dutiful Capricorn, reflecting his family’s military tradition. The transits (current movement) of this world-shaping planet have not been very kind to McCain lately. Saturn spends a bit more than two years in each sign as it makes its 29-year orbit of the Sun. Saturn entered McCain’s sign Virgo in September 2007 and it passed over his Sun on July 16. This challenging transit clearly shows limits and where personal adjustments must be made. But it also rewards previous efforts with recognition for one’s hard work and dedication. Ideally for McCain, this transit should have been a crowning moment, a time when his years of public service elevated his status and made him the clear frontrunner for the Presidency. The Senator’s supporters, though, are likely to be disappointed as the former “straight talker” has been leading a campaign designed to focus on his opponent’s flaws rather than his own accomplishments.
John McCain’s natal Saturn is in vulnerable Pisces, perhaps reflecting the fame and respect he earned as a prison camp survivor of the Vietnam War. Uranus, the planet of breakdowns and breakthroughs, passed over his Saturn in April and will do so again this September and next January. It is difficult for anyone to maintain the authority, discipline and self-control of Saturn when erratic Uranus makes one of these infrequent visits. This may be a factor in McCain’s difficulty in defining his candidacy in specific terms. It certainly represents the likelihood of surprises that can decide the outcome of the election. This Uranus transit to his Saturn can help him to stake out a unique political stance that redefines and regenerates his campaign or it may find his credibility further weakened and ensure an Obama victory.

Hi Jeff. I read yours and Rick’s monthly horoscopes religiously on AOL Horoscopes on behalf of Tarrot.com. I noticed that each sign is updated with the month of August except for Cancer- which is still on July. Hopefully you’ll get around to updating it soon. Thanks! -Cindy
