Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and the Sun's shift into this impulsive sign today marks the beginning of the Astrological New Year. Accordingly, it makes sense to look ahead at what's coming up so we can make Astrological New Year's resolutions!
Although it may feel as if we are spinning wheels without making much progress (because both physical Mars and mental Mercury are retrograde), the energy will shift quickly when Mercury turns direct on April 4, followed by Mars on April 13. Aside from considering how we want to use this cosmic energetic blast, it's helpful to see these first steps on our new journey in a wider astrological perspective.
The main event
The first day of spring is always the beginning of the Astrological New Year, but this year is qualitatively different from previous years because of the main astrological event that occurs on June 24 and Sept. 19. The big event of the year is the dynamic square between revolutionary Uranus and evolutionary Pluto that is exact on these dates (and five more times through 2015!). However, most of us are already feeling the effects of this long-lasting aspect that can impact our lives on a very profound level. Naturally, each of us reacts to the intense changes in our environment differently, depending upon our Sun sign and the specifics of our individualized birth charts. It's as if we have reached a bend in the road, yet cannot see what's ahead until the road straightens out again. Therefore, making concrete plans for the rest of the year is difficult because of the potential for significant change around June 24 and Sept. 19.
The upcoming Uranus-Pluto square stirs tensions that came into awareness during the 1960s when these two slow-moving planets were conjoined. Events around the world during the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the mid-60s included cultural upheaval (Pluto) and technological innovations (Uranus). However, large-scale global, political, and economic events also have direct impact on our personal lives. Assuredly, the action will heat up this summer -- not only on June 24, but also through the end of June when the Sun in self-protective Cancer aspects the Uranus-Pluto square.
More fuel for the fire
The impetus for change will reach new heights of expression when Mars in relationship-oriented Libra stirs the cosmic stew in mid-July. Social Venus reactivates ongoing relationship issues in mid-August, with communicator Mercury coming back into the picture on Sept. 20, just a day after the exact occurrence of the Uranus-Pluto square. September remains astrologically unstable through the end of the month as the Aries Full Moon triggers Uranus and Pluto on Sept. 29. Of course, presidential politics will be on center stage through this time with instability and uncertainty again activated by Venus on Nov. 1 - 3. Warrior Mars enters the picture toward the end of November, raising the stakes in both global politics and personal relationships. The Sun acts as the final trigger this year between Dec. 25 and Dec. 30, placing a cosmic exclamation point on a year of great change.
It's in your hands
So, back to the present moment of the Spring Equinox and the need to make resolutions for the months ahead... Since it's impossible to outsmart reality by guessing what will happen during this time of great change, it's more important now to find inner stability than to seek happiness in external events. Rather than making resolutions about what we want in the external world, it's wiser now to focus on our personal development. It's more productive to consider what we each can do to improve our health and well-being. Although we're all affected by the planets, economics, relationships and more, the most useful resolutions we can make now are about improving our daily routine in ways that positively impact our everyday lives.
It's going to be quite a year! What do you think the big changes ahead will bring?
