About Coin Toss Odds

In I Ching, there are two traditional methods for building hexagrams: tossing three coins and counting up the heads and tails as they appear, or separating yarrow stalks into random groups and counting them in a predefined way. Each method creates different odds for the appearance of certain types of lines — there is a slightly higher chance of receiving a yang line with the yarrow stalk method. Because the yarrow stalk method is the oldest method for calculating hexagrams, the yarrow stalk odds are considered by some to be more authentic than coin odds. While the coins are what we display above, we leave the choice of odds up to you and your preferences.
