The Hanged Man brings a new perspective this month, one that has you seeing your old patterns clearly and deciding it's time to release the ones that have you trapped. This might feel like a sacrifice at first, but try to see it as an opportunity. Look at the figure's face on this card -- it is calm and serene, not alarmed or fearful. His hands are behind his back, but we don't know that they are actually tied. This inverted position isn't forced; it's a choice, a choice to shake things up. It's easy in day-to-day life to feel like you are the center of the world, but the world is huge and contains so many people with so many ideas of how life should be lived. What might you be keeping yourself from experiencing by not expanding your worldview?
Theme card for July: The Hanged Man
Check out what this character is wearing. His clothes are primary colors -- red, yellow, and blue -- the colors that, when combined, make all other colors. Remix your world this month, discovering a variety of new colors with which to communicate and express yourself. The options for enrichment are infinite.
Don't have time to upend your whole life and chase rainbows? I know, it isn't a very practical suggestion when you have responsibilities like jobs and relationships. So how can you actually incorporate this in your daily life in a way that's reasonable but still profound? Use every interaction with other people as a chance to explore different perspectives and motivations. Use disagreements with coworkers or friends as opportunities to understand, rather than chances to prove how right you are. Step into their shoes for a minute and see how they arrived at their adamant conclusions. You could also try doing something for someone else that doesn't benefit you in any way. This could be an act of service to a friend or stranger. It could be participating in an activity a family member loves that you've never been interested in before. What does it teach you about how the other person experiences life? What does that then teach you about yourself?
Let yourself enjoy the unfamiliar this month. Each week I'll draw another card here to provide additional advice or cautions around this theme of appreciating new perspectives. Above all, be patient with yourself and your process this month!
