Transcending Emotions in the Age of Aquarius
By Jeff Jawer
The great ages are derived from the 26,000-cycle of the Earth's pole as it moves against the background of the stars like a wobbling top. This motion is called precession and it goes backwards against the conventional order of the signs. We name each 2,160-year age (26,000 divided by 12) according to the sign in which the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring) occurs in the northern hemisphere. The problem with timing its changes is that the stars that make up the constellational signs are not divided into equal 30-degree segments, nor are their boundaries precisely defined. Thus, there is a wide range of opinion covering hundreds of years regarding the beginning of the Aquarian Age.
The ages describe unfolding processes of human experience, especially in our understanding of God or an otherwise-named divine force. About 2,000 years ago the Vernal Equinox shifted from Aries to Pisces, exemplified by the symbol of Jesus and the fish and the ideal of compassion. The previous Age of Aries birthed monotheism and the Jewish story of Abraham and the ram. I believe that we are currently in a state of transition from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age. The discovery of Uranus, Aquarius' ruling planet, between the American and French revolutions and the ensuing technological advances correspond with this sign's association with freedom, democracy and the power of mind over matter. However, the shadows of the Piscean Age linger in the sign's emotional attachment to all-consuming religious beliefs.
Aquarius is the sign of the human being and, in spite of its watery name, is associated with the element of air, representing intellect. The Waterbearer represents the mind of humanity that elevates us above our emotions. It symbolizes the future as a new concept separated from Piscean sentimentality and filled with fresh visions of what we are capable of creating on planet Earth. Its opposite sign Leo is the individual artist; Aquarius is a community of originators and inventors who are plugged into a collective thought field from which the next step in human evolution will come. Think of it as an organic Internet where minds meet and data flows to take consciousness to the next level. We are all nodes in this human network, transmitters and receivers seeking coherence to harmonize our signals, raise our collective vibration and become the divinity we seek.
