How Each Zodiac Sign Keeps Secrets
Which Sun signs are best at keeping things confidential?
Your company is about to lay off someone you've become friendly with, and you've been asked to keep silent about it. Do you hold your tongue (as a dutiful Capricorn probably would), or give the person fair warning (as a tenderhearted Cancer might)? A friend confides that she has inherited a great deal of money and begs you not to tell anyone. A Gemini and a Scorpio would likely have two very different responses.
Check your zodiac sign to see how good -- or bad -- you are at keeping secrets:
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
You don't think twice about telling others your own secrets, Aries. However, that doesn't mean you can't keep theirs. You'd rather not be burdened with info you can't share, lest a slip of your tongue let the cat out of the bag. You find it especially hard to keep good news -- like a friend's engagement -- a secret. On the other hand, bad news -- like a confession that someone cheated on the job -- may be easier for you to hold in confidence.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
It's painful for you to keep secrets, as you prize honesty above all else. But if someone tells you something in confidence, you will not repeat it. You're slow to share your own dark secrets, so you respect others' privacy, too. Surprise birthday parties are a piece of cake for you to keep under wraps. Stickier ethical dilemmas, like whether or not to share a friend's secret confession about spousal abuse, could keep you up at night, though.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
You're the least likely to honor others' secrets, as you prefer everything out in the open. When a juicy bit of gossip lands in your lap, it usually doesn't stay there for long. You don't really think of it as gossiping … just sharing info. And keeping others informed is your mission in life. If sworn to secrecy, you can stay mum on life-or-death issues. But since it goes against all your instincts, you'd actually rather not be told at all.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Being upfront does not come naturally to you, but at the same time, holding things inside can give you an ulcer. So, you may end up blurting out your true feelings about a person or situation, adding, "But please don't tell anyone" for fear of retaliation. Though you'd have a hard time keeping a secret if it adversely affected someone you're fond of, you'd delight in keeping your sister's pregnancy under wraps, since it bonds you closer.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
You are excellent at keeping secrets, Leo. In fact, the bigger the secret, the better you are at protecting it. It makes you feel important to be in on privileged info, and you take the responsibility seriously. Because your word is important to you, you don't give it lightly. But if you like and trust someone, you're inclined to keep their confidences -- unless, of course, another person's safety or matters of national security are at stake.
Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Since your natural modesty prevents you from blabbing your own dark secrets, you consider it your duty to honor others'. You likely would never agree to keep secrets concerning illicit activities. But if it's a private matter, such as a baby born out of wedlock and secretly given up for adoption, you'd respect the mother's request to not tell anyone. And once you give your word, you will do everything in your power to keep it.
Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
You're quite open about yourself, as you believe in the philosophy of "share and share alike." But you learned the hard way to honor your friends' secrets, especially those of the romantic variety, which they often confide in you, the "love expert." You're unlikely to reveal professional secrets, as you've found they can also bite you in the butt. You confide a lot in your spouse, however, so your trustworthiness may depend on theirs!
Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
You're as silent as the grave with your own private matters, Scorpio. But you really don't like to keep others' secrets, because you figure if it's a secret, then the teller needs to keep it -- not you! You would probably refuse if something violated your morals, like an affair. As you become more open to those around you, you'll be asked less often to hide things for others. You likely have many personal secrets, though.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
You're good at keeping your own secrets, Sagittarius. But you tend to spill others' private info in the interest of telling a good story. When friends share a secret with you, they need to stress the importance of confidentiality to ensure you don't forget (and even remind you again later). The more important it is to someone that you keep the secret, the better you are at doing so ... but some things you may be better off not knowing.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
In your youth, you may have had a tendency to leak others' secrets as a way to counteract your natural introversion and feel more popular. But as you matured, you quickly realized that your reputation depended on keeping others' confidences. And your reputation is everything to you. When it comes to business matters, your lips are sealed -- you'll likely protect the company's interests over those of an individual.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Your natural emotional reserve and tendency to withhold your own secrets make protecting others' private matters fairly easy. It takes a lot of soul-searching before you'll breach a personal confidence, and only then if you feel its revelation could resolve a crisis. At work, if the secret is creating problems of some kind or jeopardizing your job, you might disclose just enough to remedy the situation.
Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)
You are a master at keeping secrets, Pisces -- in fact, you're capable of hiding whole aspects of your life. But you also love to help people, and therefore when a friend confides in you, you may end up sharing their story as a "teaching tool" for someone else who's facing a similar situation. Though you're scrupulous about not naming names, take care that the distinctive details stand no chance of incriminating the person in question.
